Sell jeans on eBay to make money

Clothing is one of the most popular items you can sell on eBay. Every day, ordinary people earn extra money by buying and selling the best selling clothing brands on eBay. When I started selling online on eBay in 2009, money was flying. I was shopping for inventory every day at my favorite consignment store. A pair of Lucky jeans with worn cuffs would sell for $60 or more. The competition has become fierce ever since.

Start with a brand you are already familiar with. Let’s take American Eagle as an example. You have a great pair of her skinny jeans that is now a size too small and you decide to sell them. First, do your research. Go to eBay and type in American Eagle Skinny Jeans Size 6 and then refine your search by showing only full listings.

The items that appear in green (for the price) are those that have been sold. Items listed in red were not sold. Ignore items that didn’t sell. Usually those are too expensive. Focus on items similar to yours that have sold. Take note of the condition. Is there visible wear? Any defect? Worn cuffs? Also, keep an eye out for keywords that successful sellers included in their title and description.

If you sell jeans, you need to know what style they are. Are they boot cut or skinny? Low rise or high waist? Familiarize yourself with clothing terms like high rise and inseam. You also need to learn how to describe the wash of jeans. Light or dark? Some brands will have the wash written on the care label, as well as a date code that shows the season and year the jeans were made. Not sure what the codes mean? Look at those. There are some buyers who are very specific about what items they are buying. Do your research in advance.

Take quality photos on your smartphone

You don’t need to shell out hundreds of dollars for an expensive digital camera. Just use your phone to take the photos. Edit the photos with the Edit function of your phone. I use my Apple iPhone to take ultra flattering photos. I can post directly to eBay right from my phone.

Find the best jeans to sell on eBay

Men’s jeans that are high-end brands can make you a lot of money. Women’s jeans will sell but the profit margin is slightly lower. Men are less likely to return jeans. You can and will make money selling jeans, but expect crazy looks and rolling eyes when you tell your friends about your plan. Ignore them. I started selling jeans on eBay in 2009 and have sold thousands of pairs of jeans, shorts and skirts. Look for these top brands:

Diesel: jeans for men and women, mainly made in Italy. Authenticate with photos. The jeans sell for between $10 and $210 on eBay. There are many fake diesels on the market. A pair of New With Tags (abbreviated NWT on eBay) SAFADO style in Dirty New Age (dark wash, slim straight) recently sold for $210 on eBay. Those are men’s jeans. Originals vs. Fake Diesel Jeans: Original jeans are made from higher quality material. You can feel the difference. Diesel was started in 1978 by Renzo Rossi. The most popular men’s styles are Zathan, a slim-fitting bootcut jean, and Thanz, a slim-fitting, straight-leg pant. Women’s styles include Liv, a lower-rise straight leg, Matic, a low-rise skinny jean, and Low sky, which has a straighter leg cut and lower rise.

True Religion – Sells for $15 to $300 on eBay, depending on style and condition. True Religion was founded in 2002 in California. It is considered High-End Denim. There are many imitations on the market, so add photo details and close-ups to authenticate the jeans. The best selling style online is Super T. True Religion brands are known for their oversized white stitching. The jeans are made in the USA unlike many other popular brands.

Hudson – Founded by Los Angeles native, surfer, yogi, and cyclist Peter Kim in 2002. Look for the Union Jack label and V-button pocket (triangular back pocket). Hudson jeans symbolize a proud spirit of defiance. These sell for anywhere from $10.49 to $85 on eBay, depending on condition and style. If you can find jeans that are NWT (New With Tags), always get a clear photo of the tags to increase the selling price.

Paige – First launched in February 2005 in high-end retail stores, founded by Paige Adams-Geller, who is the only female founder in denim history. These are high-end jeans in styles like the Skyline Skinny and the Avalon Hidden Hills Bootcut. There are even amazing skinny maternity jeans with built-in panels for women to look fabulous during pregnancy. My favorite Paige style is the Skyline Skinny in Carson.

BKE – Buckle-made jeans for men and women $20 to $250 on eBay

Vintage Levi’s – A pair of Levi’s from the 1890s sold for over $36,000 on eBay. The jeans came from a mine in the Rand Mining District in CA’s Mojave Desert. The seller uploaded the listing with data to authenticate the origin of the jeans, including explaining candle wax drippings from the miner’s light. Levi’s usually sell for $15 more.

Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle: Not considered high-end, but these brands are popular. My favorite brand is American Eagle, especially AE Artist jeans. American Eagle clothing is well made and sells well. Certain styles that have been discontinued like Real Flare are still in demand. If you can find quality items and get them at great prices, you will make money on eBay.

Book Review: John Updike’s Version of Roger

Updike’s version: new quote on an old topic

John Updike is once again in familiar territory, mixing high theology and low eschatology in Roger’s Version. This book is less an emotional exercise than an intellectual gambit, with the provability of the Almighty as its leitmotif. While trying to prove the existence of the Judeo-Christian God is certainly not a new sport, Updike chooses to play by slightly different rules than those that constrain the likes of St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, and a host of lesser people. well-known Christian philosophers. Instead, he launches his argumentative and theological rays against the backdrop of modern scientific thought and method, evoking evolution, the Big Bang, and the binary oddball of today’s supercomputers. Planck and Heisenberg collide with Kierkegaard and Karl Barth, resulting in an electrical charge that permeates Updike’s always literate and frequently erudite pages.

The Roger of the title is Roger Lambert, a professor of divinity at a Northeastern university (probably, but not necessarily, at Harvard Divinity School). Entering his office is Dale Kohler, a hacker and university research assistant who requested a date due to his friendship with Roger’s niece, Verna. Hungry for a research grant, Dale proceeds to harangue Roger about the possibilities of using science, specifically computing, to finally prove the existence of a Supreme Being, declaring, “The most miraculous thing is happening. They’re getting down to business.” the nitty-gritty, they’ve really whittled things down to the last detail, and the last thing they expected to happen is happening. God is showing up. They hate it, but they can’t do anything about it. The facts are the facts. And I don’t think people in the religion business, so to speak, are really aware of this;

Roger, a specialist in early Christian heresies, plays the level-headed devil’s advocate to Dale’s bubbly religious enthusiasm. Where Dale longs to quantify God through modern empiricism and computer simulations, Roger prefers to keep him “wholly other.” The combative exchanges between the two offer some of the most interesting controversies to be published in years.

But Roger’s version is not just an exercise in theological pomposity. This intellectual antagonism plays out against a modern version of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. Roger is Roger Chillingworth, Dale is Arthur Dimmesdale, and Esther (Roger Lambert’s second wife) is Hester Prynne. It’s a story Updike has been fascinated with for years. Where his earlier novel, A Month of Sundays, attempted to give Dimmesdale’s point of view on Hawthorne’s classic tale of adultery and revenge, Roger’s Version sides with Chillingworth. The villainous Roger of Hawthorne becomes the heroic Roger of Updike. However, Roger Lambert is not without his villainous streak. After Dale begins his long relationship with Esther, Roger plans to take revenge on both of them: on Dale by not only bringing down his arguments but also destroying his faith; in Esther by embarking on an incestuous relationship with her niece Verna.

It is through all this rather energetic gibberish that Updike gets to expose his second obsession: sex. “It’s a great surprise that nature has prepared for us,” Roger thinks at one point, “love with its racing pulse and its drastic overestimation of the object of love, its rhythmic build-up and discharge; but that’s all, there is no another delight that life has to offer, unless you count the bridge of contract and death.”

Roger is first and foremost a voyeur: “The secret glimpses… of life that goes by without me noticing my observation have always excited me.” However, he often goes beyond secret glimpses and uses his vivid imagination to graphically detail Dale and Esther’s clandestine trysts. Much of the novel, in fact, shows Roger identifying more and more with Dale, until he begins to see everything around him, especially his wife, through Dale’s eyes. Roger finds this an endlessly fascinating and terrifying experience, as the young hacker reawakens old feelings and beliefs in him that he had long since abandoned for dead: “…I felt too hot and started sweating. I was trying too hard.” I was bringing to light beliefs that I once came to and buried long ago, to keep safe.” It is as much for this as for Dale’s affair with Esther that Roger takes his revenge.

In many respects, Roger’s Version, while not Updike’s best or most representative novel, is a book he has been working on for years. The uneasy relationship between religion and science is a familiar hallmark of his work, and one can see the germ of this novel in what is possibly Updike’s most famous short story, “The Music School.” In it, the protagonist Alfred Schweigen recounts that: “In the novel I never wrote, I wanted the hero to be a computer programmer because it was the most poetic and romantic occupation I could think of, and my hero had to be extremely romantic and delicate” . , because he was going to die of adultery. To die, I mean, to know that it was possible; the possibility crushed him. I conceive of it… devising idioms by which problems could be fed into the machines and emerge, under binomial percussion, as the music of truth…”

While Roger’s version often seems poetic, it is far from romantic. There are no pure heroes, no absolute villains. Dale is too outspoken and boisterous and caught up in his own temper to gain much sympathy; Roger is too cold, too calculating, and too aloof to inspire much emotion; the rest are mere players. “Music School,” of course, was written more than twenty years before Roger’s Version, and Updike’s rose-colored glasses have long since been tinted by experience. While Roger’s Version elicits few human emotions, it manages to be both fascinating and frustrating.

Those with little patience for theological debate may find all this too much, but Updike has managed to produce another mature work for those willing to take on a challenge.

Can you get a DUI on a horse?

DUI on a horse. Is that possible? You may be surprised to learn that DUI charges on a horse have been brought against people before, including as far back as 2009 (contrary to popular belief, there was no such thing as a DUI back in the days when horseback riding was the predominant mode of travel) . Which reminds me that this is not some fancy, misleading article to try to get you to read about anything. I will not discuss DUI law in the 1880s. This is an analysis of current DUI laws and what could get you riding drunk today.

Because I am a Seattle, Washington DUI attorney, I am going to use Seattle DUI law in my example of analyzing whether or not you can get a DUI on a horse. And while I can’t be sure, this may be one of those rare occasions where Seattle’s law applies across the board to all fifty states. However, whether or not that is true, I must request that if you have a question about DUI and you are not in Seattle, that you contact a DUI attorney in your state and discuss your issues with them. Laws from state to state may be different, so to make an informed decision, you need to know the laws in your state.

Let’s set the scene for the DUI in a horse test case. It starts like any other day. You go out with your friends to ride his horse (he lives in one of those residential developments that have built-in equestrian trails throughout the subdivision). But before you ride, you’re going to watch the Mariner game on TV. During the game, since it’s Saturday and everything, he decides to have a couple of beers. And a pair becomes ten. By the end of the game you’re pretty drunk, but you saddle up and ride off anyway.

About halfway through the ride, he’s on a residential street transitioning between trails when a Seattle police officer pulls up and asks what he’s doing. You tell him and he asks you to get off the horse to investigate further. Although you didn’t realize it until then, you still have all your Mariner gear on, including the full uniform (you’re a huge fan). As the Seattle cop talks to you, he asks if you’ve been drinking. You say yes, and then you agree to take some field sobriety tests. And then you get arrested for DUI in Seattle.

When you finally talk to your Seattle DUI attorney, he says you can drop the charges immediately. But how? Let’s take a look at the DUI statute to find out.

RCW 46.61.502 states that drunk driving is operating a vehicle in this state under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating drugs. Seattle DUI can be proven in three ways: (1) a breathalyzer test greater than .08; (2) show signs of alcohol or drug intoxication; or (3) showing signs of alcohol intoxication Y drugs

But the analysis does not start there, because there is a previous step involved. The definition of “vehicle”. And vehicle, as you can imagine, encompasses many things, but they all have motors and wheels, and are moved by some kind of machinery. I would explain the definition of vehicle, but it’s too long. But, I can tell you one thing, the vehicle does not include horses.

there you go It is impossible to be convicted of a DUI in Seattle on a horse. It doesn’t work because a horse doesn’t qualify as a vehicle, and operating a vehicle is a necessary element of the crime. This does not mean, however, that he cannot be charged with other crimes, or that he should ride a horse drunk. If you didn’t know, it can hurt a lot to fall off a horse.

Buckwheat Noodles

3 servings

Buckwheat flour is gluten-free, making it a good choice for anyone with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. Buckwheat is not a cereal grain, but is actually a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel. It is full of nutrients and has a nice nutty flavor. Buckwheat also has a low glycemic index. Diets containing buckwheat have been linked to a lower risk of developing high blood pressure and this is due in part to their rich supply of flavonoids, particularly rutin which includes the catechins in green tea and the polyphenols in red wine, which are not it is found in other grains or beans, but it is contained in high quantity in buckwheat.

The key to its powerful cancer-fighting potential is precisely its buckwheat integrity, as supplements containing only rutin are not as effective. Flavonoids are phytonutrients that protect against disease by extending the action of vitamin C and acting as antioxidants. Buckwheat also contains nearly 86 milligrams of magnesium in a one-cup serving. Magnesium relaxes blood vessels, improving blood flow and nutrient delivery while lowering blood pressure; the perfect combination for a healthy cardiovascular system. Buckwheat is also high in insoluble fiber (4.5 grams per cup), which can help women avoid gallstones. Researchers believe that insoluble fiber not only speeds up the time food moves through the intestines, it also reduces bile acid secretion (since excessive amounts contribute to gallstone formation), increases insulin sensitivity and lowers blood fats.

Soba noodles are native Japanese noodles made from buckwheat flour. Like pasta, soba noodles are available in dry form in supermarkets, but they taste better when freshly made by hand from buckwheat flour and water. Traditional Tokyo-style soba noodles have a ratio of 8 parts buckwheat to 2 parts wheat flour. The recipe below tells you how to make the noodles, but you can buy the dried form at the supermarket as long as you make sure they are buckwheat noodles with no added preservatives. Noodles are easy to make once you’ve made them a couple of times. If you have kids ages 4 and up, this is a great weekend chore to do with them. Once made, these noodles can be kept in the refrigerator for a couple of days, provided they are generously dusted with buckwheat flour during the making process to prevent sticking and stored in an airtight container.

So go ahead and take a trip to Japan!

Ingredients to make homemade noodles:

230 grams/ 8 ounces buckwheat flour

60 grams/ 2 oz. whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon unrefined salt

6 fluid ounces of water

Ingredients for finished dish:

Homemade chicken, fish or shrimp broth or pieces of chicken, fish or shrimp

1 tablespoon. Sesame oil

1 tablespoon Japanese soy sauce

Unrefined salt to taste

Chopped lettuce, prepare only when dish is almost ready to serve to preserve vitamin C content

Method:

Sift the two flours and the salt into a bowl. Run your hands over the surface to break it up and then add the water little by little until you achieve the right consistency. Create a dough with your fingers while gradually forming a sticky ball incorporating all of the flour. Unlike wheat, buckwheat readily absorbs water. The goal of this step is to do a complete mix in just 10 seconds (or as fast as possible!). Work the flour into a ball. Divide into 3 equal portions (one portion for each serving). Work with one portion at a time. Cover the other two portions with a slightly damp cloth or wrap them in cling film to prevent them from drying out.

Dust with a very generous amount of finely ground buckwheat flour and flatten the dough with a rolling pin until it is about 1.5-2mm thick. Dust with more finely ground buckwheat flour to prevent sticking and place in a pasta maker to get the spaghetti ribbon/noodles. The pasta maker settings should be number 1 (thickest) for the thickness of the dough; it is not necessary to pass the dough several times through the machine, only once to obtain a uniform thickness.

If you don’t have a pasta maker, don’t divide the dough but you will need to work the dough to make it stretch as much as possible. Then roll it out to the required thickness as above, sprinkle generously with fine buckwheat flour, fold the dough over a couple of times, then cut the noodles with a sharp knife to about 1.3mm wide. This is more tedious, so investing in a pasta maker is preferable!

It is very important to boil a large amount of water per serving. The boiling time depends on the thickness of the noodles. To cook regular thickness of soba, you will need about a minute and a half. And if the soba is thicker, you will have to cook it longer. Make sure the noodles are fully cooked, not al dente like Italian pasta. If the noodles are not boiled long enough, they will be very difficult to eat. Don’t worry if the noodles have started to stick together before you cook them. Place noodles in water without separating; They will be released into the water. Scoop up the cooked noodles with a strainer and briefly place them in a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process.

Drain the noodles well and return them to a pot with a little homemade chicken, fish or shrimp broth. These noodles can be served with chicken, fish or shrimp. In this case, boil the chicken or fish in a small amount of water (don’t overcook, the meat will get too tough), add the drained noodles. Add a little sesame oil, Japanese soy sauce, and unrefined salt (if needed). Remove from pan and add some chopped lettuce and sliced red chilies if desired. Serve hot.

These noodles can also be served with any other sauce dishes, for example fish curry! Incredibly delicious!

Sell with surprise, amazement, theater and drama

If you can’t do your numbers and you’re stuck, maybe it’s time to present your story and product with more flair and drama.

Pressing for the list

Daryl Hardy, who publishes Success magazine, sold real estate between the ages of 20 and 24. Obtaining expired real estate listings, he says he was determined that people would either love him or hate him.

Using his “shock and amazement” campaign, he said he showed up at the prospect’s door at 6 am to ask for the listing. If she didn’t receive it, later that day an attendant delivered a package she called “Da-Bomb” because it was “large and full of combustible materials.”

But wait, there’s more!

Hardy describes the rest:

“Then early in the evening, an assistant would show up and hand them a SOLD sign and say, ‘This is a gift from Darren Hardy; he’ll need you soon after he hires you to sell his house.’

Later that night he would drop by in person and ask for the list again. If the list hadn’t already been secured, I’d hand or mail something to them every day for at least two weeks along with a daily call from me.”

The man who used theater and drama

Another who knew how to turn heads was the late Gary Halbert, who called himself “the best copywriter in the world.” Many people say that he was. But Gary was very direct and straightforward, which annoyed some people.

He said advertising too often lacks two important elements: theater and drama. He wrote an ad campaign for actor Ernest Borgnine’s wife, Tova. She was launching a new perfume line and Gary needed a dramatic way to meet her. So he concentrated on the book she had just written:

“I wrote a full-page newspaper ad: ‘New book by Tova Borgnine hits bestseller list.’ I had it written as if it were a real newspaper ad. I framed it in a gold frame. I wrapped it in silver foil with a bow and sent it to her office. She opened it and called me 20 minutes later. she made millions of dollars from that partnership. She has to stand out among these people. She wants her marketing to be more impactful.

perfume launch

To kick off the sale of Tova’s new perfume, Gary insisted that instead of using a boutique that could hold 150 people, he rents out the entire lower half of the Century Plaza Hotel. He then wrote a full page ad for the Los Angeles Times promising a free bottle for the first thousand people. More than 7,000 people showed up on a weekend afternoon.

That launch was featured in Time magazine and generated millions of dollars worth of orders from department stores. Halbert said the launch was so successful because of a great great idea perfectly implemented. The ad began with a legendary headline that he claimed was the best ever written:

Wife of famous movie star swears under oath that her new perfume contains no illegal sexual stimulants!

So when you think about how to stand out in the marketplace, look for ways to make what you say (and sell) more dynamic.

What are the advantages of ABAP that make it the fundamental language?

Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) is a high-level programming language used to program SAP application server. ABAP includes a wide range of capabilities and efficiencies. Most of the developers and consultants use ABAP to develop SAP applications for their prestigious clients. After knowing the advantages of ABAP, every budding programmer would want to learn ABAP and excel in the career of it. If you are interested in learning the programming language, enroll in SAP ABAP online training courses.

SAP pioneers say that it is always a wise and smart choice to use SAP’s own ABAP language to develop SAP applications. Let us now explore the advantages of the ABAP programming language.

The power of Macros in ABAP is enormous

For large programs, modularization methods make the programmer’s life very easy and simple. SAP ABAP witnesses the use of many modularization models in the form of macros and routines. In ABAP, macros or modularization start with DEFINE and end with END-OF-DEFINITION and can be called any number of times in the program. Macros can also be used to specify formulas used for high-level logical calculations. Using macros or routines in your program increases readability, flexibility, meaning, and relevance. The power of macros lies in how well the programmer uses their versatility and replaces them in the relevant places in the coding.

ABAP is an event-driven language

SAP applications developed with ABAP do not start or stop on their own. They always require user interaction or other events that are triggered by other running programs. As it requires user interaction, users have a strong command of the language. However, other languages need complex logic and coding to achieve similar event-driven programming.

ABAP provides better database management

When it comes to business, it’s not just a single database you use for reporting or analysis. It is always a mixed type of essential data or records that is present in many databases. SAP together with ABAP provides logical ways to define, manage and manipulate databases in a more effective way. The tables are created in such a way that they can be assigned to any number of virtual objects and can be queried as needed.

Another important reason for the wide use of ABAP is that it was developed specifically for distributed applications. The ABAP language brings immense flexibility to SAP applications such that distributed systems unify diversified databases according to requirements. Therefore, ABAP concentrates more on the integration of applications and databases, so that all data utilities are intact and correctly distributed.

These are the few notable advantages of SAP ABAP. Aspirants who want to learn more about ABAP can take classes given by highly professional SAP ABAP training institutes. Job opportunities for this programming language are huge in today’s market and it is the right time for aspirants to enroll in SAP ABAP online training courses and improve confidence level. Certified trainers will guide you through the course for a better understanding.

Building Self Esteem

A Therapeutic Model for the Development of Self-Esteem

Years ago, as a young graduate student, I heard one of my favorite professors, Dr. Alan Anderson of the University of Minnesota, speak about the role of birth order in developing self-esteem. As a behaviorist, my reaction to this approach to human growth and development was primarily to dismiss the concept as irrelevant.

Dr. Anderson had a series of identical metal rocking chairs in his office, which brought back many special memories because my father bought one for my mother when I was born. I shared this with Dr. Anderson and he told me that when I successfully completed my Ph.D., he would give me one of his own to match the one I had inherited from my parents, if I would listen to him and come to a fuller understanding of his ideas. In the process of several years of long and drawn out discussions, he won me over and made my mind think in a completely different direction. So I’m going to give credit for what I’m going to write here to Dr. Alan Anderson.

Adding to Dr. Anderson’s thoughts are years of my own clinical observations. I have often taught these concepts to my students and their reports have been to reinforce that the concepts have been useful to them in their own clinical practice. Recently, several of my students invited me to lunch and asked me to put these concepts on paper for their benefit, if nothing else. I have chosen to take a personal and anecdotal approach to this presentation rather than a strictly academic and research-oriented one, although it may come in a revised version.

Over the years, I have come to believe that the very beginnings of self-esteem development have to do with the quality of the relationship between the parents or significant adults in the child’s birth environment. Children don’t need to be told where they come from, they feel it innately. Mothers often report that at some point in the first trimester of their pregnancy they sense a certain quality in the personality of this developing baby, but that is a whole other topic and not my focus here.

My description of the process begins at birth. At birth, a child acquires the ability to observe her environment, and an important part of that observation is the ability to observe how her mother is treated. The first gift a child receives comes from her observing the way her mother is treated. If the mother is treated as a valuable and valuable person, the child automatically assumes that he or she is also a valuable and valuable person. I constantly tell fathers how important it is how they treat and interact with their wife. Parents should always treat the mother of their children with respect. They should always treat and speak to her in a way that clearly indicates that they view her as a person of great value, equal in power and authority in the governance of family affairs.

What I learned from Dr. Anderson has guided my thoughts and observations over the years. I hold that the first child in a family enjoys the attention of both parents until the appearance of the second child. At this point, he or she turns his or her attention to the father as a result of the mother’s concern about this new addition to the family. If this connection is established between child one and the parent, the process of developing a strong and stable self-esteem in the child continues to move in a positive direction. When this emotional bond and connection does not occur, the child can have great difficulties in his adult life. The first principle is that the self-esteem of the oldest child in the family depends largely on the quality of the emotional bond and relationship between the first child and the father.

The second child seems to rest comfortably with the mother, and the second principle is that the self-esteem of the second child in the family depends on the quality of the emotional bond and relationship between the second child and the mother.

The third child enters a balanced system and, as a result, becomes what Dr. Anderson called “the observer.” This child seems to focus his attention on an observation of the quality of the relationship between the parents and, in fact, he seems to take some responsibility for the preservation of that relationship. The third principle is that the self-esteem of the third child in the family depends largely on the quality of the relationship between the parents.

The fourth is the “garbage collector”. He or she seems to take what is left over and is influenced by the strength and quality of the family system as a whole. The fourth principle is that the self-esteem of the fourth child in the family depends on the quality of the family’s relationships, structure, and stability.

With the fifth child, the process begins again with a small addition. The self-esteem of the fifth child in the family depends on the quality of the emotional bond and relationship between the fifth child and the father, as well as the oldest child.

Knowing this as a starting point can be of great benefit to a doctor. If my client is the oldest son and he suffers from self-esteem issues, it makes sense to at least ask about the relationship between the client and the father. If this is productive, you have saved some exploration time; if not, nothing lost.

Self-esteem begins with childhood experiences. The degree of self-esteem is supported by continuous success experiences. Self-esteem is how a person feels about himself. It is a calm response to oneself: a sense of self-respect. When you have it deep inside, you’re glad to be you. With him you don’t need to be impressing others, you know you have value. Each individual’s judgment of himself influences the type of friends he chooses, how he gets along with others, the type of person he marries, and how productive he will be. It affects creativity, integrity and stability. Self-esteem forms the core of the personality and determines the use that the individual will make of the skills and abilities of it. A therapist helps a client build a firm and sincere belief in himself. Strong self-respect and self-esteem are based on the belief that you are lovable, matter, and have value simply because you exist. If they feel worthwhile, they can manage their environment competently and know that they have something to offer others.

How to stop a dog fight: 5 tips to separate them

There are generally two types of dogfighting: illegal dogfighting and dogfighting over a favorite bone or someone in a heat cycle. But stopping a dog fight in any way can be dangerous if the person involved is seriously injured or killed trying to stop the fight, depending on the severity and the breed of the dogs involved. This article will focus on dog fighting in general and offer five tips on how to stop a dog fight without getting hurt.

Tip #1

If the dogfight is between two small to medium sized dogs, have the owners or two people grab the dogs by the hind legs and quickly separate them in a circular or twisting motion.

Once the dogs quickly part completely, hold on to their hind legs at all costs or they will come back to attack the other dog or you. Each person should take her dog to separate rooms or her own fenced yard while the dogs surround each other simultaneously. Speed is essential.

Tip #2

If he’s alone, stay calm and quickly grab a leash or something similar to separate the two dogs.

Quickly get a leash and wrap it around one of the furthest areas of the dog (around the lower back above the hind leg area). Grab the other dog by the hind legs and pull the dog up. The dogs will keep trying to attack each other, so quickly move the tethered and held dogs to somewhere where the leash can be attached, allowing the dog in hand to move to a separate location.

Tip #3

Many trainers advise never using a stun gun, pepper spray, or cattle prod to break up a dog fight. Others suggest using a water bottle filled with vinegar, as it will entertain the fighting dogs momentarily, at least long enough to separate them.

What will happen is that the moment the dog feels the prod, pepper spray, or stun gun, it will instantly assume the other dog is the culprit, escalating the attack.

Tip #4

“A dog can bite only one person at a time”: This may be a true statement, but it sure doesn’t make me feel any better. And you? A dog bite can be avoided by keeping your hands and legs away from the fighting dogs head and teeth at all times.

When dogs fight, the last thing they think is that last week they learned to “sit” and “stay” while biting their owner on the leg or hand. Little Fido isn’t the sweet dog he was last week…right now, anyway. He is defending himself, his favorite toy or his property, ironically, which may be the hand he just bit off.

Tip #5

Use a brake stick for pitbulls or aggressive and ferocious dog attacks as it will be impossible to gain quick control without one. Raising the hind legs of pit bulls or similar breeds to break up their dog fights will not work as their bites are made to rip and tear.

The jaws of the pit bull and many other aggressive dog breeds use the “lock and hold” mechanism. This makes separation control for dog fights even worse, as the damage to the other dog involves tearing of muscle and skin.

The only way to break up this type of fight is to spread their jaws with a breaking rod (necessary in multi-dog households) while someone else ties up the dogs for control. This can be dangerous as all the fighting dogs will redirect their anger and attack when they get separated as they are still in attack mode. Knowing how to stop a dog fight involves a lot of things, but breeds should always be considered first.

FOCUS on Gymnastics… It’s a SAFETY issue

FOCUS on Gymnastics… It’s a SAFETY issue!

What lies behind the ability to concentrate?

Focus is the key to success… But there’s more to it than just thinking about the skill or routine to perform. What lies behind the ability to concentrate? Believe it or not, what an athlete does outside of the gym is just as important as what he does in the gym. An athlete’s hydration level, eating habits, sleep quality and medications greatly affect a gymnast’s training as well as her performance in competition.

Dehydration… Did you know that when you are thirsty you are already dehydrated? Gymnasts can experience performance loss of up to 30% when dehydrated. As little as 2% fluid loss will have a negative impact on your athlete’s body, mind, training and performance. Mild dehydration can cause confusion, irritability, constipation, drowsiness, fever, thirst. Symptoms of mild to moderate dehydration include dry and sticky mouth, muscle weakness, joint stiffness, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, cramps, decreased urination, cold extremities, slow capillary refill, and sunken eyes. With moderate dehydration, your gymnast may experience hot flashes, poor stamina, rapid heart rate, elevated body temperature, and sudden fatigue. Severe dehydration is the loss of 10-15% of body fluids and is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. Signs and symptoms of severe dehydration include extreme thirst, irritability, and confusion, very dry mouth, dry skin and mucous membranes, lack of sweating, little or no urination, any urine produced will be dark yellow, sunken, wrinkled, and dry. skin, palpitations, fever, coma and even death.

Dehydration of any kind will not correct itself. It is imperative that your gymnasts drink enough fluids before, during and after their workout. The good news is that mild to moderate dehydration can usually be reversed by drinking fluids. The bad news is that when your gymnast is moderately dehydrated, she can lose focus. With a loss of concentration, your gymnast will be at risk of injury from an accident. The results can be severe to catastrophic. Some accidents and injuries could be prevented simply by drinking plenty of fluids.

Drinking during training is one thing, but if your gymnast hasn’t had enough fluids during the day, she will enter the gym dehydrated and put herself at risk of serious injury. As coaches, we must encourage our athletes to drink enough fluids before, during and after training. How much fluid should they drink? It is recommended that your gymnast drink 1/2 her body weight in fluid ounces for each day of normal activities. For example, if your gymnast weighs 100 pounds, her hydration goal would be about 50 ounces per day. That is not the same as serious training time. Your gymnast would drink more during intense training. What should your gymnast drink? It is recommended that a sports drink be used for those exercising for more than one hour. Athletes NEED the carbohydrates and electrolytes in these beverages for safe training. Professional athletes use Gatorade for a reason, because it works. Don’t you want to do Gatorade? Use coconut water! Coconut water works great and is healthy.

Nutrition in relation to performance. Without enough carbohydrates, your gymnast will not have the energy to safely perform training or competition. When there are not enough carbohydrates in the diet, energy comes from protein. When your body is forced to use protein for energy, it gets that protein from muscle. When the body is forced to use energy from the muscles on a regular basis, it is difficult to gain or maintain strength and muscle mass. The long-distance runner is an example of someone whose body uses protein for energy. They have very little muscle mass. It is counterproductive for a gymnast to allow the body to use protein (muscle) for energy on a regular basis. Gymnasts need energy to train and strength to perform skills and routines. Lack of energy and strength will greatly affect the gymnast’s ability to concentrate. Lack of focus can result in catastrophic injuries. There isn’t enough space here to fully discuss nutrition, but you can visit Dr. Fred Bisci’s or Dr. Joe Kasper’s websites to learn about nutrition.

And finally, sleep… We all know how difficult it is to function when we are tired, especially if we don’t sleep well for more than one night in a row. How can we expect our gymnasts to perform safely when they don’t sleep well? we can’t Imagine a gymnast learning a new skill or performing an entire routine when she hasn’t had enough sleep. Would you feel comfortable performing a double back when you are chronically tired? It is difficult for your gymnast to concentrate when she is tired and it is extremely dangerous. Your athlete’s ability to focus and react decreases when she doesn’t sleep well. Once again, lack of concentration can lead to an accident, a catastrophic one. Driving tests have shown that people who are tired drive just as poorly as those who are under the influence of alcohol. They cannot react as well as those who are well rested. Did you know that November 2010 was National Drowsy Driving Prevention Week? This is how fatigue affects the ability to focus and react. About one in six fatal car accidents in the US is due to drowsy driving, according to a new study from the Foundation for Traffic Safety. I wonder how many gymnastics accidents are due to the gymnast being tired due to bad sleeping clothes. It is imperative that your gymnast is well rested and able to concentrate.

Keep in mind that when focus is lost, accidents can and will happen. As coaches, we have a responsibility to talk to parents about hydration, nutrition, sleep, and even medication side effects. It seems that many parents do not realize the direct relationship between daily life and performance during training and/or competition.

So I keep saying that FOCUS IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS, but more importantly, FOCUS IS THE KEY TO SAFETY. Without proper hydration, nutrition, and sleep, our gymnasts will not be able to focus well, putting them at risk. I think we should call these risk factors (hydration, nutrition and sleep) the SAFETY TRIO. It’s a quick and easy way to remember the phrase I just mentioned. The SAFETY TRIO is as important as all the exercises and conditioning used to prepare our gymnasts for new skills, routines and competitions. Without all of these factors, our athletes may be at risk of injury. Best of luck with your training and always keep safety in mind while training.
